TAKING THE WIDE VIEW: Panorama and Narrative in Painting MARCH 22nd to MAY 17th, 2024

$450.00

Fridays online in Zoom 10 am to 11:30 am  March 22nd – May 17th 2024

NO CLASS April 12th  and May 10th

Artists have been telling stories through painting since Paleothlitic times. Simple, direct mark making left on cavern walls still communicates with viewers today. Fast forward to 2024 and we are bombarded with visual images on a daily basis.  With a digital age, comes a variety of screen formats, thumbnail presentations and the ever-present selfie. How do artists stay focused and create a unique perspective.? In this 8-week session we will explore the work of artists who isolate and convey a moment in time, a place or a feeling through painting. Join me as we immerse ourselves in new perspectives and techniques of past and present masters and conclude with our own panoramic painting. Featured artists include Pierre Bonnard, Jane Freilicher, Jonas Wood, Israel Hershberg and Damien Elwes.

Format of class includes weekly painting assignments done on gessoed paper and some research. Students send a photo of their completed assignments to me via email by Thursday at 4pm. I send a group email with all the project images before we review on Friday in Zoom. Demonstrations, lecture topics and weekly assignments are given in Zoom and recorded in case you miss class.
