In this  five-session class over  6 weeks, we will look to our female painting ancestors as well as some powerhouse contemporary artists for inspiration. Whether you are a beginner or practicing artist, this class is geared to stimulate your creativity while discovering new techniques and artists.  Working from representation through abstraction, we will look at four uncompromising artists: Dutch Artist Rachel Ruysch, US painters Alma Thomas, Helen Frankenthaler, and the stellar Amy Sherald. Crossing multiple genres of painting; still life, landscape, figurative and abstraction, our weekly painting assignments will keep us focused on new ways of seeing and painting. The class is part art history, part studio work for a fully immersive way of learning how to paint.

Lecture and demos begin in class as well as weekly reviews of the painted assignments. Projects require some painting time outside class. The four painting assignments are suggested on gessoed paper which is covered in materials fee. Acrylic and oil painters encouraged.
