The sounds, sights and movement of summer are the inspiration for this new online painting class. While the season may be filled with tempting distractions, artists can take those as cues for getting out and about and then come back to the studio reinvigorated for painting anew. This session we are looking to Bay Area Icon Ruth Asawa for the depth and breadth of how she lived an artist’s life and her sensual use of form. Also, up for the holiday, Jasper John will lead us to create our own revised take on the American Flag. Want to travel abroad? David Hockney will show us a new way of seeing color and pattern in the neighborhood, and contemporary artist Hayley Barker whose paintings of flowers and backyards create a harmonious explosion of quiet color.
The class has seven class meetings. Through four weekly assignments done on gessoed paper that isolate specific techniques or approaches to painting, artists will expand their own proficiency while discovering new inspiring artists. The final two weeks will be spent on an individually directed painting based on a new perspective or approach you gleaned from class. For beginners as well as practicing artists.
