This 7-session class comes at a perfect time to explore how the introspection of winter can offer new perspectives about painting and the solace of time. Ater the mad rush of the holidays and the exclaiming news headlines, let’s just take a minute to breathe, look and paint.

This session I have selected artists whose work conjures up a sense longing, be it for place, person or time.
The artists include Dutch Artist Rachel Ruysch, Edouard Manet, Berthe Morisot, and contemporary artists Katherine Bradford & Birgit Jensen. I love to dive deep into the language of painting to discover new ways to see my environment, or approaches to the mechanics of technique.

Quiet time does not mean we won’t be busy surveying fluttering  brushstrokes, imaginary landscapes, space created by stillness and moonlight  and richly painted fruits that satiate the senses.

There are four weekly assignments done on gessoed paper that isolate specific techniques or approaches to painting,   The final two weeks will be spent on an individually directed painting based on a new perspective or approach you gleaned from class. For beginners as well as practicing artists.
